Delicieux, aka Delicious (2021), lives up to its name. The scenes are beautifully shot. The food scenes are so yummy, gorgeous that I had to cheer in the rolling credits when I saw the names of the food team roll before the cast members. Even the scenery is set beautifully with a taste of life in pre-revolution France.
My interest in gastronomic history was fed well here. There are many layers in this story that paint a picture of discovery for me during a big moment in French history from the perspective of food and the people. I do believe there are more historical elements shown that I’m not aware of and surely wish to explore further.
When I watched this movie the second time I came to appreciate the acting of Isabelle Carré. All the actors did a great job and you can’t help getting pulled in to feel for Grégory Gadebois’s character in the beginning scenes. But, I fell in love with Isabelle’s character in another, great foodie movie about chocolate - I will post soon. To see her charm and passion in this movie was…well…delicious.
I don’t want to give away too much, so I’ll end here.
I hope you have a chance to watch Delicieux wherever you are.
